Investigators & Research
The structure and environment at San Diego BioMed is designed to foster collaboration across disciplines and specialties and to encourage innovation. While individual research groups work on the disease areas in which they are experts, they also work together in the discovery of causes and possible treatments for long-term complications that are common to many chronic diseases including cancer, HIV infection, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and obesity.
To that end, brainstorming sessions with investigators in these different disease areas are held regularly to identify important questions, write joint grant applications, and coordinate the relevant scientific research. This arrangement allows researchers to enjoy a level of collaboration to enrich their own research goals and interests.
