The Multiple Sclerosis Medical Research Center (MSMRC) is a center for excellence at San Diego BioMed (SDB). Scientists at SDB attend regular MSMRC meetings to, identify new information related to MS care and research, discuss and agree to the priority hypotheses and approaches, present and discuss data from ongoing experiments, and design the presentation of projects for dissemination to the scientific and community population. Funding to MSMRC is used to pay for supplies for joint projects that are directly related to MS research and pay for experiments and technical assistance using previously approved budgets.

Ballad was founded by the now President & CEO, Dr. Joanna Davies, in July 2013. It is housed within San Diego Biomed space and hosts the same forward thinking goals.
The mission of Ballad — previously known as San Diego Diabetes Research Institute — is to support the early development of projects related to the treatment of human disease. These may include pilot studies, innovative high-risk/high-impact projects, or proof of concept studies. Ballad provides investigators, embarking on early development projects, with necessary laboratory facilities and infrastructure. Investigators with successful projects are encouraged to expand their studies with more substantial funding through San Diego Biomed or other non-profit organizations.
Learn MoreOur research programs are funded primarily by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Private donations help to accelerate the progress of research through the purchase of laboratory supplies and equipment or the recruitment of additional laboratory personnel. Thank you!
