Max is a recently retired corporate executive with a professional career spanning over four decades and three continents. Max was most recently Executive Chairman of a Nasdaq listed diversified holding company (PICO Holdings, Inc.) and successfully led the sale of the company to DR Horton, America’s largest homebuilder, in 2022. Max held several roles during his tenure at PICO including, CEO & Chairman, CFO and investment analyst as well as serving as a Board member on numerous public and private investee companies. His expertise in corporate finance, strategic planning, corporate governance, and mergers & acquisitions covered numerous industries and geographies during his career. Max has also served as a trustee for not-for-profit organizations including The Bishop’s School, La Jolla, California (2011 to 2018 and Board President from 2015 to 2017) and Episcopal Community Services (2006 to 2012). Max graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of London in 1982 and has lived in La Jolla since 1996. He is married with two adult daughters and enjoys traveling and mountain biking.
