Maureen Pecht King is a previous Chairman of the Museum Trustee Association (of North America) and is the current Chairman Emerita of the Board of Trustees of Mingei International Museum. She has also served as Mingei International’s Vice-Chairman and has chaired the Nominating/Governance and the Development Committees. Ms. King chaired the Search and the Transition Committees when the Museum moved from the leadership of its Founding Director to its current Director. She is the past Director of Development for Mingei International Museum (1983-1986 and 1997-2002) where she worked with the President and the Board of Trustees in securing exhibition sponsorships, building endowment funds and expanding Museum membership at the Director’s Circle, Corporate Associate and Connoisseur levels. She was also a consultant for Mingei International’s 8.6 million dollar Capital Campaign, which provided building and endowment funds for the Museum’s move to Balboa Park. Recently, she completed her Co-Chairmanship of Mingei International’s 55 million dollar Capital Campaign to renovate and reimagine the physical spaces of the Museum.
Maureen graduated cum laude from the University of San Diego College for Women with a Bachelor of Arts degree and has taught speech and drama on the secondary school level. Ms. King was honored by the University of San Diego with the Bishop Charles Francis Buddy Award in 1984. She has received the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award from the United Way of San Diego and the Junior League of San Diego, Inc. In 2005, she was honored by the Salvation Army as a Woman of Dedication and by the Junior League of San Diego with a Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2011, she was honored by the San Diego Organizing Project and by the Patrons of the Prado in 2012. She received the James F. Mulvaney Community Leadership Award from the United Way of San Diego in 2015.
Maureen, who is a fifth generation Californian, and her husband, Charles, have four adult children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
