On the issue of treating HIV in people with syndemic mental-health and substance-use disorders

San Diego BioMed would like to congratulate our own Marcondes Lab on their recent paper publication. We celebrate their impactful research as a testament to their collaboration, dedication, and hard work.

The article discusses the potential benefits of long-acting antiretroviral therapy (ART) for people living with HIV (PWH) who also have substance-use and mental-health disorders. It highlights that these individuals are often excluded from clinical trials, despite facing significant challenges in adhering to daily oral ART. Including them in trials could provide insights into the clinical value of long-acting therapies, especially in addressing adherence issues and the complex interactions between HIV, mental health, and substance use.
